A Sanctuary For All To Enjoy!

27 Jul

Daisy Barham and Ingrid Neilson are part of the passionate team at the Australian Marine Conservation Society – Australia’s only national charity dedicated to protecting our oceans and the life within.

This dynamic duo recently visited the team on Fraser Island to help raise awareness of their Coral Sea campaign and teach us ways we can protect our waterways at home. The resort team are proud to lend our support, as a Platinum Business Supporter, to this wonderful cause. July 2012.

What a wonderful whirlwind trip we had to the island in mid July. Night talks and sunset walks on the beach. Nesting native birds in the Centre Complex of Kingfisher Bay Resort and leaping squirrel gliders beneath the stars.

We met with the dedicated Resort Rangers Nick and Jermaine to talk through our priorities on marine conservation and see how they can help out.

After a sunset walk on the beach we talked with resort guests about our campaign to protect the Coral Sea, which lies just 100km to the north-east of Fraser Island. Kingfisher Bay guests and staff were really supportive of the campaign. Several of them had been sailing and boating on live aboard dive trips to this ocean paradise. They shared their experiences of diving in the near-pristine Coral Sea that is so far from land that the water is clear as a bell and the diving visibility second to none.

We were really excited to go on our first Beauty Spots Tour of Fraser Island with the incredibly knowledgeable eco-tour guide, Hayden. Highlights included The Pinnacles Coloured Sands, Lake McKenzie (full from all the rain) and Central Station – land of old growth forests and giant King Ferns that made us think of dinosaurs!

The Beauty Spots tour reminded us of how precious World Heritage-listed Fraser Island is and how ancient and globally important Australia’s land and seas are.

From our warm tropical reefs to our cold sub-Antarctic islands, Australia has stewardship over one of the largest marine jurisdictions on Earth. Our seas cover an area almost twice the size of our continent and contain the richest life on our blue planet. That’s a big responsibility!

The Australian Marine Conservation Society (AMCS) is Australia’s only national charity dedicated exclusively to protecting our ocean wildlife. Thanks, Kingfisher Bay Resort -it’s a pleasure to be working together to protect our precious ocean wildlife.
